About Oahu Psychological Services
A team of licensed behavioral health specialists serving Oʻahu families, individuals, hospitals, and physicians since 2013.
Our mission
We provide thorough ADHD, learning disability, and related psychological assessments for children and adults. We also offer a range of therapeutic approaches, including humanistic, cognitive behavioral, psychodynamic, interpersonal, family, and group, to fit the needs of people living with anxiety, depression, behavioral disorders, addictive behaviors, and life transitions.
Whatever the approach, every treatment rests on respect for the individual and an emphasis on a strong therapeutic relationship.
Our history
Dr. Val J. Umphress earned his license as a psychologist in 1997. He worked at Pali Momi Medical Center and in independent practice until 2013, when he founded Oahu Psychological Services.
As a former university instructor, he founded the practice not only to meet the needs of the local community, but to help students and new graduates gain the experience they need as they start their careers.
Today the practice has a team of 11 psychologists and licensed therapists. We serve individuals and also work with hospitals and medical providers for the people of our island.
Why a quote about problems
M. Scott Peck, author of The Road Less Traveled, wrote that it is through meeting and solving problems that we grow. We agree: problems can be a gateway to growth. Our work is to help you regain your mental health, with a better understanding of yourself and of how you work through what concerns you.
